Hi, I’m Arshad M. Khanani, MD, FASRS, with Sierra Eye Associates here at ASRS 2026. In Montreal, I presented the first-time results from the phase 2 ArMaDa study looking at OCU410 (Ocugen) in patients with geographic atrophy (GA).
OCU410 is a one-time gene therapy designed for the treatment of GA. It uses RORA, a modifier gene therapy that is involved in chronic inflammation and complement activation. So we are modulating that to lower inflammation and lower the complement system in an effort to slow down GA.
The phase 2 study enrolled 2 dose cohorts—medium-dose [1x10¹⁰ vg/eye] and high-dose [3×10¹⁰ vg/eye]—and a control arm. Each cohort had 17 patients.
Looking at the data, the baseline characteristics were essentially well balanced. In terms of efficacy, we saw a 34% reduction in GA growth in the medium dose compared to control.
As far as safety is concerned, OCU410 was well tolerated. There were no cases of retinal vasculitis, occlusive retinal vasculitis, or endophthalmitis.
In conclusion, OCU410 is a novel modifier gene therapy designed for the treatment of GA. This is a one-time treatment, and we have seen 34% reduction in GA growth in patients treated with the medium dose. I’m excited to participate in the phase 3 program that’s starting later this year.
