Diana V. Do, MD: Hi, I'm with Dilsher S. Dhoot, MD, FASRS, and he’s going to be presenting exciting data on aflibercept 8 mg (Eylea HD; Regeneron) monthly dosing in the ELARA study. Tell us some of the key takeaways from that presentation.
Dilsher S. Dhoot, MD, FASRS: So as you know, we have aflibercept 8 mg in our hands and we have pivotal data from PHOTON and PULSAR. And this data compares aflibercept 8 mg with aflibercept 2 mg (Eylea; Regeneron). But a question remains: how does aflibercept 8 mg do with monthly dosing in those patients who have been previously treated with anti-VEGF agents? This is a question that ELARA sought to answer.
Dr. Do: And do we see good anatomic and visual outcomes?
Dr. Dhoot: Absolutely. So we looked at both neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) patients and we saw visual acuity benefit in both AMD and DME as well as central retinal thickness benefit. And the safety data is consistent with the pivotal trials.
Dr. Do: And how has this changed your clinical practice? Are you using monthly aflibercept 8 mg in those hard-to-treat patients?
Dr. Dhoot: So the nice thing is, the label has been updated to reflect this data so we can actually use it in our hard-to-treat patients. There’s a minority of patients that need this, but it’s very nice to have this at our disposal.
Dr. Do: Thank you so much for sharing that information. We look forward to talking with you at future meetings.
Dr. Dhoot: Great. Thanks, Diana. RP
