Hi, this is Diana V. Do, MD, at the Retinal Physician channel. Today I'm joined by Gaurav K. Shah, MD, president-elect of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS). What excites you about the American Academy of Ophthalmology subspecialty day meeting and what advice would you give to the young retina specialist about making the most of their time at this conference?
Dr. Shah: Diana, I think subday is always a fun day for us. There's a great program you and the whole team has put together. I think on subday, a lot of the conversations that will take in the hallways actually are some of the most exciting—to see people's responses with gene therapy, with surgical approaches, with lots of new medical treatments.
I think [the way] for a young person to get the most out of this, or any other big meeting, is to connect with the people who are there. Really get to know them. They’re very welcoming. And also, [spend] part of subday in other specialties, because it allows you to go to all these other events. I would try to make the big meeting like a small meeting and try to talk to the experts because they're willing to talk to you. Just take it all in and soak it in and hopefully apply that on Monday.
Dr. Do: Well, I'm definitely going to recommend everybody talk to Dr. Shah, because you've been a leader and you continue to lead by example.
Dr. Shah: That goes for you too, Diana. Thank you so much.
Dr. Do: Thank you again for joining Retinal Physician. RP
