Hi, I'm Daniela Ferrara, MD, PhD. I’m an ophthalmologist and retina specialist, drug developer, and clinical imaging expert. And I’m talking to you from Eyecelerator at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in New Orleans. I’m here to share our line of research in oculomics. I currently serve as chief medical officer for Topcon Healthcare. Two days ago, Topcon announced Oku Digital Health, a new organization that’s going to bring to life the science of oculomics. Tomorrow, we’re going to launch Oku Digital Health here at AAO.
Many retina specialists like myself have made countless diagnoses of systemic diseases back in the clinic. I’ve lost count how many times I examined a patient and I made diagnosis of diabetes, high blood pressure, even neurological conditions. The science of oculomics uses biomarkers in retinal imaging or other types of ocular data to make predictions of systemic diseases. We hope that the science of oculomics is going to help us scale that clinical capability and help us to make earlier, more precise diagnoses of systemic diseases using ocular data in retinal imaging.
We’re excited to put devices at the point of care, even beyond ophthalmology. We’re excited to put devices in primary care offices, in emergency rooms, in cardiology offices. And we hope that this is going to help us help the patients to navigate their health care journey. Join us to learn more about oculomics research at AAO. RP
