Meeting Highlights At a Glance

It is with great pleasure that we present this special edition of Retinal Physician focused on highlights from the 2nd Annual Retinal Physician Symposium held at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas this past May. For those of you who were lucky enough to attend, I believe you will agree that we not only heard the latest updates in our field, but had a unique opportunity to interact with the presenters and fellow attendees in a lively and informative manner. For those of you who could not join us, we hope you will find this recap of events to be valuable in giving you some idea of what took place, as well as to pique your interest in next year's meeting.

As you will see, a major focus of the meeting was in the area of exudative age-related macular degeneration. We were privileged to witness the first presentation of the PIER data as well as listen to lead investigators and other physicians comment on the latest ranibizumab research and how they are putting this new treatment into practice. We also looked at other angiogenesis inhibitors and the possibility of treatment strategies for neovascular AMD by hitting the disease process from all angles.

Obviously, there is more to retina than just AMD, and additional highlights from topics such as intraocular tumors, surgical therapeutic approaches, pediatric retina and retinal vascular occlusive disease were presented.
